This physical computing project developed out of a routine digital fabrication meetup at the CAMstudio in Greensboro, NC. D.E. Leckie, Sebastian Lindquist, and I would meet in the space weekly for studio time. In early 2014, we began to bounce around a collaborative idea that resulted in Shy Tower, a blend of art, design, mechanics, and furniture. The idea was to have this fantastical device contract according to breathing patterns. When someone got too close while examining the phenomenon, the cabinet would cease. We exhibited it at the Digital Craft show in March 2014 at UNCG’s Gatewood Gallery.
