Cells, Layers, and Constellations
Dickie Cox, Cells, Layers, and Constellations, 2016. Mixed media installation with interactive animation using cardboard, Processing, Syphon, electronics, and human touch and proximity. 144 x 120 x 3” (projection surface), 144 x 72 x 48” (sensor array).
This abstract experiential and immersive installation was fabricated and installed with the assistance of dozens of public art students in the Johnson State College Department of Art. It was exhibited at the Susan Calza Black Box Gallery on March 25, 2016 in Johnson, VT as part of and supported by the Barbara Murphy Fellowship. The piece uses tabletop gaming terrain from various role-playing games as its inspiration and cardboard as the staple material of childhood construction projects. The cabinetry forms a subterrean magick altar where the stalagmites control the abstract animated fire of projection remapping.
